Why is healthy eating education in schools important?

Healthy eating is about more than just eating healthy food — it’s about giving pupils the energy, focus, and confidence to thrive in and beyond the classroom. With children’s health and wellbeing under increasing pressure, schools have a vital role in shaping positive habits early on.

The School Food Showdown turns healthy eating education into a fun, memorable experience that truly makes healthy eating stick.

    What is The Restaurant Rivals?

Around the world, we’re eating more and more processed foods, and less fresh ingredients, such as vegetables. This means that on average, we're eating more foods that are higher in fats, sugar and salt. We need your pupil's help.

They have a challenge - They must take on the role of Chefs opening a brand new themed restaurant.

In groups, they must design a healthy signature dish containing all the food groups, set a budget and present their restaurant to the punters.

The top restaurants will go head to head in a live cook off to decide the best restaurant!

The whole experience will have your pupils buzzing about food, the restaurant industry,

and at the same time practicing key skills for life.

    FAQs

Our commonly asked questions. Please feel free to contact us though!

    • How many pupils can we have in each workshop?

We can have anywhere from 20 up to 200 pupils. The smaller the group, the more interactive the workshop gets!

    • We have pupils with allergies, how do you manage that?

The ingredients we use in the workshop have been prepared to eliminate most common food allergens.

In the workshop we do not use milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, fish, shellfish, or sesame. We do occasionally use Soy Sauce (Gluten free)

After the cooking part of the workshop we do ask for volunteers to test the food that has been cooked by the participants.

But, before we give out tasters, the presenter will clearly say that if anyone has any allergies at all, that they should not taste the food.

We also request that school staff be aware of any pupils with allergies, to keep things even safer.

    • What do the school need to provide?

Simply an assembly hall (or very large classroom), and somewhere we can wash up!

    • Are you DBS checked?

Yes! All our presenters are DBS checked, and carry company ID with the DBS details, at all times.

    • Are you insured?

Absolutely, we have specialist Public Liability and Employers Liability insurance.

    • We need to write a funding bid, can you help?

Yes, of course! Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have, or if you need any help.

You can also download an Aims and Learning Outcomes document here.

    • Do you have a risk assessment?

Yes we do! When you book, we will send you a link to our instructions on how to prepare for the event. You can download our risk assessment then.

If you need it before then though, of course, we are happy to send it over.
